♥ My Introduction to Reiki
Reiki was introduced to me by a flyer from my husband's Reflexology Practitioner. He wasn't interested in taking her course but he thought I might be.
♥ My First Reiki Class
My level 1 class in Western - Takata based Usui Shiki Reiki was October 1994. What an interesting class. We had 8 or more people and my teacher had her sister (also a Reiki Master) assist in teaching and passing on the attunements.
One of the students was a nurse who required a 90 minute nap at lunch-time before continuing the class. Another classmate needed to go hug a tree as she felt she needed grounding. I was able to sense a cold spot in the knee of my practice partner. She later admitted that cancer had been removed from the knee. Its' been a remarkable journey, never would I have thought it would change my life so much.
♥ 2002 Usui Reiki Ryoho International (URRI) Conference
– Toronto, Canada
I was still on a quest for 'more' Reiki, but in the traditional sense as opposed to the plethora of New Age styles that were rapidly entering the marketplace. Innately, I must have known that Reiki was more than just a physical healing technique; which I now know that it is. Reiki was the starting point for me looking at Buddhism to see how this philosophy influenced Mikao Usui. Now I am quite keen on learning all things Japanese. But I digress.
♥ Komyo Reiki Training with Inamoto Sensei
Inamoto-Sensei was offering Komyo Reiki at the 2002 conference and it was a wonderful experience. The only unfortunate part - an English training manual was not yet available. The Reiju offered seemed radically different to the attunements I'd experienced with my Western - Takata Shiki Masters.
I've been fortunate to attend two subsequent workshops with Inamoto-Sensei sharing Komyo Reiki Kai in Toronto and have been most honored to host a workshop in my hometown of Barrie in 2011. Plans are in the works for his return in 2013.
♥ What do I like about Komyo Reiki?
Komyo Reiki is simple, so simple in fact that some people might find it hard to accept how effective it truly is. The practitioner doesn't have to 'do' anything, however they need to 'be' fully mindful and present. In this current day and age that can be very hard for some to do.
I also appreciate that Komyo Reiki is also a 'spiritual healing art'. Spiritual, not in the sense of an organized dogmatic religion, but an opportunity for the Reiki practitioner to make their personal connection with the Cosmic Consciousness of Everything. Each time I practice Reiki on myself, a client or teach a class it becomes meditation/quiet time. It's a chance to be in the moment.
Thank you Lilia for this opportunity to share my Reiki Story.
